AMCO Method in use and education.
Today I want to write about AMCO method. We in class have already heard about it, thanks to our mates’ exposition and practice in class. Sincerely, I was not familiar with this methodology until this class. At the beginning I was confused because this method is completely different to the method we are used to. However, it is actually in use, even in Spain!
This AMCO method offers a qualified education through a methodology based in the emotional and mental development of the students. This method provides them the necessary tools to battle the challenges they may find in their environment. The most important principle of this method is that it is based also in the multiple intelligences (defined by Gardner).
In this way, every single child could always find interesting activities, independently which is his or her intelligence. So, this method not only points out the importance of the diversity, but also it works with the ability to work individually of each student.
This method is, in my opinion, really useful, I also think that it could (and may) be used in schools. The same way we do with Valencian language, we all need to remark the importance of English, so that is why especially I agree with the non-translation of the words or sentences into Spanish. Doing this we teachers can transmit that English is used in daily life. Furthermore, while performing this AMCO method it is compulsory to work the multiple intelligences. As a basketball teacher that I had once said: ‘we men and women are, for sure, completely different. Same rights, different bodies and thoughts.’ I am totally agree with this sentence, related to education: we students are, for sure, completely different.
Finally, as a conclusion, I do think that there are many methods that allow students to learn language easily. However, and sadly, in this country it is very difficult to remark the importance of English, even more in a city were another language is spoken. Even at university we can observe the miserable situation the English language has. In our degree, which it is very important to investigate and improve ourselves, English remains refused, used only in the specific subjects to become an English teacher. And we all know that the main important and qualified articles written about education are in English. This is a fact, and it is also a fact that English is really useful to achieve good positions in whatever we want to work. I am not playing down to this Valencian language. I just want to say, which language do I want to use?
