Don't insist on English. TED Talk.

In this video Patricia Ryan shows us how we are abusing in the English learning and how we are leaving behind other languages which are becoming extinct. The statistics offered by Patricia Ryan show that we lose one language every 14 days; the speaker numbers of dominant languages are increasing while a portion of wisdom and culture are being lost by the language disappearance.

We have nearly 7000 languages spoken all over the world. However, the research for an international language, which is not something bad but neither good at all, has become excessive. Consequently, English has become the language of the future and we can find it in wherever school we go all over the world. That means that U.K and U.S are earning great amounts of money from the exams they give in order to evaluate the English competence of their English learners. We are getting obsessed thinking that our children will be better prepared for their future if they attend to a completely English education where only English is used. We are teaching subjects such as maths or science in English, and we think that we are doing the best for our children, but in another way, I understand it because jobs are given to the more qualified workers where English is included as an important thing of your curriculum. “We are abusing of English” are words pronounced by Patricia who thinks that English speakers have more facilities in order to assist to well-known universities or well-payed jobs just because they have had the luck to has English as a mother tongue. We are not considering the prize that we have to pay when a language became officially extinct; part of our history and culture as humans spoiled, and until I know, the only language that has been extinguished and resurrected after a time is Hebrew.

To sum up, languages have to be conserved as a human treasure because we don’t know the importance of the diversity of language until we lose it. We have to realize the value of our language and use it whenever is possible. English is a good language to use it as an international language but we don’t have to let behind our language which form part of our humans culture.
